Brett started playing percussion with the school bands and the nationally recognized Hatch Steel Drum band in Oak Park, IL. Around this time, the School of Rock Oak Park journey began. Drums and keys were the focus for many years and he became a Show Team veteran and a two-time worldwide All-Star.
In high school, the audition-only senior bands were made - Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and the Marching Band Drumline. Brett has earned a spot in the Illinois All-State ILMEA Honors Jazz Combo in 2024 directed by Bryan Carter. He’s won several prestigious awards in jazz performance through ILMEA and the Purdue University Jazz Festival.
Brett has performed jazz or rock at many large music festivals and venues such as the Chicago Jazz Festival in 2024 with two youth jazz combos, Jazz Up Glen Ellyn 2023, Milwaukee Summerfest 2022 (rock), the House of Blues in Dallas & Houston, and the Bitter Jester Music Festival in Highland Park, IL.
Brett participates in the Jazz Institute of Chicago (JIC) Jazz Links Student Council and performs with various combo ensembles around the Chicagoland area with the JIC. He also drums with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO), directed by Pharez Whitted. He plays in the top jazz concert band and combo with the Midwest Youth Artists Conservatory (MYAC), directed by Drew Hansen. In addition, Brett plays with the Live the Spirit Residency with jazz legend Ernest Dawkins out of Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.
Brett continues to work hard, learn, and develop his skills and sound. He is working on composing and expanding his book of music. Brett is proficient in the at-home studio, multi-track recording, post-recording, editing, and production software platforms - LogicPro and Final Cut Pro.
Brett is interested in video production and editing with a YouTube channel where he produces content for fun. He loves his cat and listens to many different genres of music in his free time. He’s on his way to becoming a prolific professional musician!
